The International Department (ID) office warmly welcomes you to Lixin - AIA Program. The ID supports the growth and success of international students at Lixin-AIA, and aims to assist with their transition from their home countries to life in Shanghai. The ID also advices students on the different university pathways and majors which are available to them so as to assist them in making the best suitable decision for their education pursuits.The ID understands the needs of its diverse international student population. Admissions process
The admissions process involves the following steps:
- Completion of the International Student Admission Application Form.
- Non-refundable application Fee of $75 U.S. dollars.
- Official high school transcript/certificate showing completion, with Chinese translation.
- Proof of English proficiency. All applicants who did not graduate from native English-speaking countries are required to provide adequate proof of their English proficiency before receiving admission to the university.
- International Student Agreement Form, with student’s original signature.
Acceptance Process
Once the application process is complete and the student has been accepted for admission to the program, they will be sent a number of documents confirming their admission which they must use to apply for a student visa at the Chinese embassy in their home country.
Assessment
Assessment tests are required of all new students, and are used to place students in the appropriate courses. Assessment tests are scheduled regularly throughout the year.
New student orientation
Information on new student orientation is normally mailed out with the acceptance packet.
Orientation is normally held a few days before classes start and includes group sessions providing information about the college, resources available and student activities. Student will also have an opportunity to meet with a counselor for assistance with registration.
Orientation is designed to introduce students to the campus and the services provided for all students. Orientation is mandatory for all incoming students and enables you to register for classes as well as navigate the college and its resources with success.
Health insurance
Lixin-AIA's Health Insurance plan is mandatory for all students, regardless of their country of origin or any other insurance policies they may hold.
On-campus Accommodation
Lixin-AIA’s University Town Campus includes 2 separate residence blocks for male and female. All fully air-conditioned rooms come with individual writing table and chair, standard bed and wardrobe, attached bathroom with 24 hours heater. There are also common facilities such as the coin-operated washing machines, television and micro-waved oven. Internet and utilities’ fees are shared equally among the occupants.
Mild summer and winter temperatures
Shanghai's climate varies from season to season, and is warmest in the month of July, August and September, with temperatures ranging from 35°C to 38°C. Winter stretches from the month of December to February, with temperatures ranging from 5°C to -1°C.
Buddy Program
For international students who are unfamiliar with Shanghai or the Chinese lifestyle, moving to Lixin-AIA can be a daunting experience. Our Buddy Program which pairs new international students with current students, provides the friendship and helping hand for new arrivals. Buddies can also offer linguistic support, cultural guidance and information about life at Lixin-AIA.
International Student FAQ
How do I apply for admission to the Lixin-AIA as an international undergraduate student?
First, submit the application for admission. Next, submit all the required documents and transcripts. Please contact the International Department Office for assistance.
Are photocopies of documents acceptable?
International students applying from their home countries must provide original transcripts to Lixin-AIA International Admissions Representative.
What can I study at Lixin-AIA?
Lixin-AIA offers courses leading to the Certificate and Advanced Diploma in Accounting.
How long does it take to receive acknowledgement for my application?
If you are admitted to Lixin-AIA, we'll send an acceptance letter and other important documents, usually within one week of acceptance. If you have trouble receiving mail in your home country, you should apply EARLY to ensure sufficient time to receive correspondence from Lixin-AIA.
Do I have to be a full-time student?
If you are admitted as a full-time student on an X student visa, you are required to take lessons on a full time basis and complete the minimum required hours of study. Students with X visas who take less than a full course load may become out of status and risk penalties by the Bureau of Exit and Entry Administration of the Ministry of Public Security, up to and including deportation.
Do I have to take the assessment tests?
Yes. All new students are required to take assessment tests. The assessment test results are used to place students in the appropriate courses and level of study. These tests are not used to determine eligibility for admission; however, they may affect a student's ability to take certain courses without proper preparation.
Do I have to attend student orientation?
Yes. New students are required to attend new student orientation. In addition, you are required to attend an orientation sessions before you can register for classes.
Is financial aid available?
No. Financial aid is not offered to international students. However, they can apply for campus-basedscholarships if they meet eligibility criteria for an individual scholarship. Internationals students must have sufficient funds to cover all expenses incurred while at Lixin-AIA: tuition fees, books, housing, transportation, living expenses, travel and all costs related to visa issuance and maintenance. In addition, internationalstudents are required to purchase mandatory insurance. You might not be admitted to if you cannot provide sufficient proof of financial support.
Is an international student advisor available to help me after I arrive in Shanghai?
Yes. New international students are assigned an advisor and can provide assistance with immigration matters, referrals to other student services and general assistance.
What other kinds of services are available to students?
Lixin-AIA offers many academic resources and services, ranging from free tutoring to career counseling to academic advising.
Are there student clubs and groups on campus?
Lixin-AIA has many student activity groups on campus. There are many campus clubs that you may join according to your individual interests, opening up doors for you and give you an opportunity to enjoy the larger community. Check out Student Activities for more information.
How do I find out the status of my application?
You can monitor the status through our representative in your home country or through our international department office.
May I translate my documents and have them notarized?
No, all documents must be translated by either the school issuing the document or by a licensed translator. The University reserves the right to accept or deny translations.
Why do I need to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS)?
TOEFL or IELTS is required of students whose countries official native language is not English.
Am I exempt from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS)?
You are exempt from the TOEFL requirement if you have obtained a secondary school degree or higher from a country where English is spoken as the native language.
What score do you require on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)?
The score requirement is based on the type of TOEFL examination taken; a score of 550 on the paper exam and the ITOEFL (Institutional TOEFL) and 79 on the internet-based exam is considered passing.
What score do you require on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)?
An Overall band score of 5.5 is required for admissions.
How safe is the school environment?
Our campus offers a safe environment where students can be comfortable walking alone or with friends, day or night. To date, we have not had any crimes committed that manifest evidence of prejudice based on race, religion, sexual orientation or ethnicity and we have never experienced any crimes of a violent nature. The Security Department is responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe and secure environment on campus. All security officers are uniformed, and while not armed, they are in radio contact with the main gate and other officers at all times. Our security staff is also personal and approachable.
